The use of special paint to insulate a home is growing in popularity as a way to control escalating heating and cooling costs. Manufacturers of this special paint claim an energy savings of up to 20% after applying their product. The technology in many insulating paints is ceramics, which NASA scientists use to insulate the space shuttle. When applied to internal walls in the home, experts say that heat from a furnace or cold air from an air conditioner is reflected into the room, thwarting dissipation and the need to keep a furnace or air conditioner working. Your clients can purchase paint already mixed with the insulating product, or they can add the insulating additives to their own paint. Since insulating paint is thicker than typical paint, it tends to more easily fill in tiny wall cracks and imperfections, which improves appearance, reduces air leakage and helps stop sound from passing through walls.
